A Latvian fiction film, Castratus Kuilis (2014), directed by brothers Raitis and Lauris Abele has been awarded with the International Competition Grand Prix at the 45th annual Tampere Film Festival.

Recipients of the Grand Prix of the International Competition and the Main Prize of the National Competition (under 30 minutes category) will qualify for consideration in the Live Action Short Film & Documentary Short Subject categories of the Annual Academy Awards without the standard theatrical run, provided the films otherwise comply with the Academy’s rules.
